ABOUT
THE BAT-A-THON
The RPOLL Bat-a-Thon
is our primary fundraiser this season. Did you know that the cost of
running the season is far greater than the registration fee for each
player? RPOLL keeps the registration costs low so that every child
within our league boundaries can enjoy the experience of Little League
baseball. The Bat-a-Thon is our way of raising the much needed revenue
to field our teams, and pays for uniforms, fields, umpire expenses, and
scholarships to families in need.
The Bat-a-Thon works
like this: players ask for pledges based on how far they can hit the
ball during the Bat-a-Thon event. Our donors can pledge by the distance
batted, or simply with a flat donation to the League.
Every participant
earns rewards, and for those players who put effort into the Bat-a-Thon,
the prizes are awesome!

RPOLL BAT-A-THON FAQ
Following are
answers to frequently asked questions. If you need more information,
please contact Joni Gehr at jlg1530@cox.net.
Q. What is the
Bat-a-Thon?
A. The Bat-a-Thon is
RPOLL’s primary fundraiser to raise the funds necessary to support our
season. Players are asked to solicit donations from family, friends,
neighbors, and the greater community. Players receive different prizes
tied to the amount of money they raise.
Q. I paid
registration fees, why are we doing this?
A. Our non-profit
league is operated entirely by volunteers, and the funds the Bat-a-Thon
brings in and needed to cover the necessary costs as registration fees
cover only a portion of the season expenses. Bat-a-Thon helps pay for
uniforms, equipment, insurance, and field maintenance.
Q. How does the
Bat-a-Thon raise money?
A. Friends, family,
neighbors, and the greater community sponsor a player by pledging “per
foot” payable after the event, but we also encourage donations of a flat
amount to be paid at the time of the solicitation.
At the Bat-a-Thon,
each player has the opportunity to make three hits. The Team Rep or
Coach measures the distance of each hit, recording only the longest
distance. Once a player knows the distance of his/her longest hit, the
player promptly contacts those who sponsored a per-foot pledge to
collect the donation.
The players turn
their money and forms into their Team Rep who turns it in to the
Bat-a-Thon coordinator. Players and teams receive different prizes
depending on the amount of money they raise.
Tax Deductibility:
Q. Is a donation to
Bat-a-Thon Tax Deductible?
A. Yes. A donor’s
entire contribution counts as a charitable contribution since the donor
receives no goods or services in exchange for the donation. RPOLL is a
501c3 non-profit organization. Our non-profit tax id # is 86-0674502.
Corporate donations:
Q. My employer has a
matching funds program. Does my RPOLL contribution qualify for matching
funds?
A. Absolutely! The
matching fund contributor should have a form for the League to complete.
Please include this form when you turn in the rest of donations to your
Team Rep, and we'll take care of the rest. It is a contribution raised
by that player, so we include it in the player's total.
Scholarships:
Q. How many
scholarships does RPOLL provide each year?
A. RPOLL provides on
average 20-25 full scholarships each year to players who otherwise would
not be able to join our league.
